Mikel Arteta doesn’t rule out a move for Chelsea’s Jorginho

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has answered questions about Chelsea midfielder Jorginho after the Italian was linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this week.

The Gunners are looking for midfield additions as Lucas Torreira looks to be close to departing The Emirates whilst the future of Mateo Guendouzi remains unclear.

Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar have proven difficult to pursue with high valuations from their parent clubs, which has led to talks about Jorginho.

Asked in his pre-Liverpool match press conference, as reported by football.london, about transfers and the possibility of signing Jorginho from a London rival, Arteta said:

We are still open to improve our team.

The Spaniard went on to say:

We are looking for different options depending on what happens with our players here. I cannot open up on players that play for a different team and their qualities. It’s not appropriate.

Arteta was tight-lipped about Jorginho but by now ruling out the possibility of what would be seen by many as a shock move, he may have ramped up the speculation even further.

Jorginho, a 28-year-old, 23 times capped Italian international could certainly represent a high-quality addition to the Emirates squad.

Eyebrows could and would be raised over whether the defensive-minded midfielder is exactly what the Gunners need, however, especially if Chelsea are so happy to let him go.
