Arsenal linked with move for Jorginho

Sky Sports have linked Arsenal with a move for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho as Mikel Arteta attempts to land a new midfielder.

The Italian midfielder joins Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar as targets for the Gunners as the transfer window enters its final two weeks.

The report claims that as any potential deals for Partey and Aouar could demand high prices, that Arsenal may turn to their London rivals for Jorginho.

However, the 28-year-old could prove difficult to prise away after he has started both of Chelsea’s opening Premier League matches and looks to be part of Frank Lampard’s plans this season.

Despite the local London rivalry between the two clubs, recent seasons have seen players switch from Red to Blue and vice versa with the clubs striking deals for David Luiz and Oliver Giroud, whilst Brazilian winger Willian arrived at The Emirates as a free agent following the expiry of his Chelsea contract.

Arteta is seemingly desperate to sign a new midfielder before the end of the window as with Lucas Torreira edging towards the exit doorm the Spanish manager knows he must finalise a deal or run the risk of being left short.

Whilst a move for a Chelsea regular seems unlikely, rent history suggests it is not beyond the realms of possibility.
