Goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson is in London undergoing a medical ahead of his transfer to Arsenal after a £1.5m deal was agreed with Dijon, according to the Telegraph.
The Gunners have wasted little time in replacing Emiliano Martinez, who left the Emirates for Aston Villa earlier this week.
Mikel Arteta will be delighted to get a replacement in so quickly to act as understudy to first-choice Bernd Leno, and at such a bargain price, which leaves the Spaniard with more money to continue strengthening other areas of his squad.
Runarsson is a 25-year-old Icelandic keeper who joined French Ligue 1 club Dijon in 2018 from Football Club Nordsjælland.
An Icelandic international, Runarsson watched on from the bench recently as England beat Iceland 1-0 in Reykjavik.
Originally signed to be number one in Dijon, Runarsson made 25 appearances league appearances during his first season in France.
However, last term he fell down the pecking order and found himself on the bench for much of the 2019/20 campaign.
At 6’1 the Iceland stopper may not be the biggest keeper, however, he possesses plenty of quality and will look to impress should he be called upon.
Arteta and Arsenal fans will be all too aware of the importance of having a high-level backup goalkeeper in the ranks, having watched Leno suffer from injury recently, giving Martinez his moment in the spotlight that has ultimately lead to his departure.
