Arsenal are set to make an offer to Lyon for midfielder Houssem Aouar, according to Telefoot La Chaine.
The Gunners have been linked with the 22-year-old Frenchman all summer whilst Mikel Arteta has been putting together his squad.
However, having seen a large outlay already this summer, Arteta must sell some of his fringe players in order to attempt to sign his main target Aouar.
Emiliano Martinez has already left for Aston Villa and Lucas Torreira could be on his way out the exit door too.
Those deals could go some way to funding an offer for the French midfielder, who shone during the latter stages of the Champions League for Lyon.
The report claims a ‘concrete offer’ will be submitted by Arsenal of around £36.5m once the funds are available.
Journalist Julien Laurens spoke to ESPN TV about the Gunners’ pursuit of Aouar:
Aouar is the dream really for them, I don’t know if they will be able to pull this one off but they will certainly try-hard, especially once they’ve sold Torreira and Martinez.
Aouar has also earned international recognition, picking up 16 French Under-21 caps scoring four goals.
A former central midfielder himself, Arteta clearly sees something in the talented Frenchman and will be desperate to land his man and bring him to the Premier League.
