Arsenal have shown an interest in Sporting CP full-back Nuno Mendes according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo.

The Gunners have reportedly shown a ‘declaration of intent for the left-back’ who has also been watched by Serie A club AC Milan.

Mendes has been the speculation of transfer interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United this summer, although the interest is yet to materialise into any concrete offer.

The report claims that AC Milan have told Sporting they would be willing to pay €15 million for the 18-year-old, some way short of the release clause of €45 million in his contract.

Mikel Arteta could be on the lookout for cover for his first choice left-back Kieran Tierney with Saed Kolasinac’s appearances in the first team at the Emirates on the wane.

The Portuguese Under-19 left-back has made nine first-team appearances in the Sporting CP senior side in the Primeira Liga.

Whilst no offer has been made as of yet, there certainly seems to be an interest in the youngster, and with other Premier League rivals sniffing around, it would be another feather in the cap of Arteta if he could pull off the deal ahead of those other interested parties.
