Arsenal unwilling to let Rob Holding join Newcastle

Arsenal have changed their minds on their transfer stance with centre back Rob Holding and are now unwilling to let him leave on loan this summer, according to Sky Sports.

It is reported that Mikel Arteta is now not willing to let Holding leave the club on loan this summer, with Newcastle linked with a potential move for the defender but despite this decision, the Tyneside club remains interested.

This decision has come as the Arsenal boss is willing to let Sokratis, Chambers and Mustafi leave this summer, meaning Holding would be utilised more within his squad.

The Spanish manager has suggested that Holding could be in line for a starting place ahead of David Luiz in the Arsenal backline after an impressive performance in the Community Shield.

With Holding impressing in recent games, this could be a good transfer decision by Arteta. At only 24, there’s still room for the defender to improve, and offloading older players Sokratis and Mustafi helps the Gunners in the long term.

Although Holding may not get regular game time, he would definitely provide healthy competition for William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and David Luiz respectively, and not only that, he will give Arteta another solid option.
