Leeds United declare an interest in Arsenal’s Rob Holding

Leeds United have contacted Arsenal to inform of their interest in taking Rob Holding this summer, according to a report from Football Insider.

Newly-promoted Leeds are currently planning for life in the Premier League, a life which looks set to be without last year’s loan sensation Ben White as Brighton fend off interest from multiple parties for the central defender.

White’s absence leaves Marcelo Bielsa a bit short of senior defenders, something the highly thought of boss is seemingly hoping to rectify by adding Gunners centre-half Holding.

Holding was part of Arsenal’s FA Cup-winning squad, however, he struggled to earn a consistent run in the side as his form came and went. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta could now look to sell the 24-year-old as he looks to fund deals for his own targets.

One of those targets could be Lille defender Gabriel, Arsenal have been repeatedly linked with the Brazilian and could hold onto Holding until they have a ready-made replacement through the door.

After arriving at the Emirates from Bolton in 2016, Holding has struggled to cement a place at the heart of the defence, last season his eight Premier League appearances were his lowest single-season tally since his arrival.

It seems likely Arteta does want to replace the England Under-21 international in the Arsenal squad and once he has done so, Leeds United could well land their man.
