Arsenal could use Lucas Torrieira in a swap deal for Amadou Diawara

Arsenal and Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torrieira has thrown his future into doubt after saying that a move for him ‘will be the best’ when talking to Uruguay’s radio station Sport890 recently.

The defensive midfielder has been out of favour under Mikel Arteta as the Spaniard preferred a midfield partnership of Dani Ceballos and Granit Xhaka. He only made 29 appearances last season in the Premier League, with the majority coming from the bench, scoring 1 goal.

A potential swap deal is on the cards for Arsenal with Roma for Guniea international Amadou Diawara, according to Daily Mail, with Arsenal showing an increased interest for the 23-year-old.

Diawara has only played just one season at Roma, after his transfer from Napoli, but he has been well received by their supporters and has played a part in their fifth-place league finish, finishing above his old club.

The African international shares similar traits to Lucas Torreira, with both players being good interceptors of the ball and having a good passing ability, but Diawara would provide the Gunners with more size in the midfield due to him being slightly above 6ft.

Roma and Arsenal are no stranger to dealings with each other in the transfer market, with winger Henrik Mhkitaryan currently being on loan at the Italian side from the Gunners, meaning there could be a good relationship between the two clubs.

There has been no formal approach yet from either side about this deal and is in very early days according to The Telegraph, but with the relationship between the two clubs, a deal could still happen before the deadline.
