Arsenal could be set to make a huge mistake this summer as it has been revealed that they’re open to offers for forward Gabriel Martinelli.
According to an exclusive report from 90Min, Arsenal are willing to consider sizeable bids for Martinelli if they come in this summer.
The report claims that they if they received an offer too good to refuse then they would to cash in.
This could be a massive error on Arsenal’s part if they decide to go through with this, should a bid come in for the Brazilian. They should be looking to reject any offers for Martinelli and, instead, build around him going forward.
Martinelli is only 18 and has already scored 10 goals in 15 starts this season for the Gunners in all competitions. To put this into perspective, Thierry Henry scored three goals in 22 games for Monaco when he was 18 and Lionel Messi scored eight goals in 25 games for Barcelona when he was 18. That’s not to say that Martinelli will go on to be as great as the aforementioned players, but it shows that he is on the right track.
So, why should Arsenal – after one season – cash in on him and waste the prospect of having a supremely talented striker at the club for years to come? If Arsenal are desperate to raise funds, selling Alexandre Lacazette could be a better option. He is 28 and has only managed 10 goals in 29 starts this season, suggesting that Martinelli could already be of a similar ability to the Frenchman. Martinelli, who is already a favourite among the Arsenal fan base, is also 10 years younger, meaning it could make more sense to sell Lacazette and keep him for the long-term and use the funds to sign more promising talents to play alongside Martinelli.
