Ozil agent refuses to rule out Fenerbahce move

Mesut Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut has refused to rule out a transfer to Fenerbahce for his client in the future, and a move this summer could kick-start a new era at Arsenal.

The German playmaker was close to switching the Premier League for the Super Lig in January, however, ultimately he opted to remain at the Emirates.

Since then, Sogut has revealed that there is ‘no chance’ that the 31-year-old will leave his current club before the expiry of his contract in 2021.

However, Ozil has never hidden his love for Fenerbahce, and with the player having been tipped to make the move, there is no telling whether he could elect to move this summer, should a transfer emerge as a possibility.

Talking to Goal, Sogut revealed that Ozil could move to the Turkish club following the end of his Arsenal contract, saying:

You never know in football. First of all, you can never predict the movement of players.

We will see what the future holds when the contract ends but for now, there is nothing I can say.

While Sogut specifically claims that a move could occur following the expiry of Ozil’s contract, the former Germany international has been linked with a move away from the club on a number of occasions in the past, and should a solid offer arrive this summer, there is nothing to say that he absolutely won’t consider it.

Mikel Arteta is set to launch a rebuild of his squad this summer, with two midfielders and a centre-back currently on the Arsenal boss’s agenda, and selling Ozil could spark summer spending.

Should Arsenal managed to cash-in on Ozil, a significant chunk of their wage budget would be freed up, while the Gunners could be able to explore interest in younger and more exciting replacements.

It isn’t clear whether he will depart or not, but should Arsenal manage to force through an exit deal, they could find that they benefit by being allowed to kick-start Arteta’s Arsenal tenure with the additional funds.
