Arsenal and Tottenham could face new opposition in their pursuit of Wolves striker Raul Jimenez, with Real Madrid now said to have registered an interest.
AS report that Zinedine Zidane believes that the Mexican forward could be the ideal man to either start alongside Karim Benzema for Los Blancos, or replace him in the line-up if he is absent.
ESPN cited both North London clubs’ interest in Jimenez earlier this month, with the 28-year-old having impressed in his second season at Molineux, scoring 22 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions.
Jimenez has played in Madrid before, for Atletico Madrid in the 2014/15 season where he managed just one goal in 21 La Liga games, and he could seek to prove himself with Los Merengues.
However, Arsenal would be foolish not to push ahead in their efforts to sign the Mexico international, as he might just be the missing piece to the Gunners’ troubled attack.
Nicolas Pepe has established himself as first choice on the right, and with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang often pushed to the left, there has been some doubt over who should lead the line through the middle.
Alexandre Lacazette’s minutes have been reduced in favour of playing Eddie Nketiah in recent times, although it isn’t clear whether Mikel Arteta considers him to be the long-term first-choice to start for the Gunners.
Should the club seek more experience, as well as someone with a proven track record in the Premier League, Jimenez should be someone that Arsenal consider ahead of the summer window.
