Arsenal have made an enquiry to La Liga outfit Real Betis concerning playmaker Nabil Fekir, according to Star Sport, as they draw up a list of possible alternatives to Dani Ceballos.
The Gunners have been quoted £36 million by Real Madrid if they wish to make Ceballos’ loan contract permanent in the summer, should the North London outfit opt against paying Madrid’s fee, they could launch a bid for the Betis forward instead.
France international Fekir has impressed for Betis in La Liga this season, having joined the Spanish outfit after a high-profile switch to Liverpool fell through at the eleventh hour in 2018, and his performances have attracted interest.
Fekir has been involved in 13 goals for Betis in La Liga this season – scoring seven and assisting six – and now Arsenal have placed the versatile attacker back on their radar, while Fekir’s performances have also seen Real Madrid register an interest.
While Star Sport claim that Arsenal won’t make any final decisions until football has resumed, the Gunners should begin to consider making an approach for Fekir, before other clubs decide to swoop.
Mesut Ozil, usually considered Arsenal’s creative focal point, has only scored once and assisted twice in the Premier League this season, marking an Arsenal career-low goal contribution haul for the German.
Regardless of Ceballos’ future, Arsenal need more creativity if they are to return to the Champions League, and Fekir could be a marked step up from what Ozil has been able to offer recently given his form in Spain this season.
