Arsenal in talks to sign Le Havre midfielder Gueye
Arsenal are in talks to sign Le Havre midfielder Pape Gueye, who could look to displace Lucas Torreira in Mikel Arteta’s squad, although Express Sport report that the Gunners will face heavy Premier League competition for his signature.
The 21-year-old is said to have also attracted the interest of Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City this season, which could see Arsenal face a significant threat in their bid to land the player.
Arteta expressed his desire to sign a new midfielder earlier this year, and with Lucas Torreira’s future unclear, the former France youth international could look to take the Uruguayan’s place in Arteta’s squad.
Gueye has played a starring role in Le Havre’s bid to earn promotion from Ligue 2 this season, making 25 league appearances for the Sky and Navy, and this has caught the eye of Arsenal chiefs.
Described as a ‘revelation’ by French football expert Julien Laurens, Gueye has played in a variety of midfield roles, although he primarily occupies a more defensive position.
This could see him succeed Torreira in Arteta’s plans, with the 24-year-old having frequently been linked with a return to Italy following the end of the season.
Express Sport claim that Gueye could be available for as little as £5 million this summer due to his contract situation, and for such a low fee, Arsenal could not go wrong by rolling the dice on the midfielder.
