Henrikh Mkhitaryan has refused to rule out a return to Arsenal this summer, talking to The Times, and the attacker could end up saving Mikel Arteta significantly in the transfer market.
The Armenia international has spent the current campaign on a season-long loan with Roma in Italy’s Serie A, having been deemed surplus to requirements by Unai Emery in the summer.
Now the 31-year-old has spoken out about his future, and despite Roma being keen on keeping him on a permanent basis, the attacker hasn’t ruled out a return to the Emirates.
Mkhitaryan said about his future:
I can’t say anything at the moment because the season is stopped, we don’t know when we’ll start playing again and what will happen in the summer.
Football changes so quickly. One day you’re here, the other you’re there. You never know what can happen and what will happen with you.
Mkhitaryan has contributed towards nine goals in his 13 Serie A appearances this season, scoring six and assisting three, which is considerably more impressive than Mesut Ozil’s haul.
The German playmaker has scored just once and assisted twice in 18 Premier League appearances this season, which for a player of his calibre isn’t positive in the slightest.
Mkhitaryan has been used in a variety of positions this season, both out wide and through the centre, with the latter indicating he could replace Ozil, especially if he has proven to have had more of an impact on his side’s successes this season.
The Armenian also played through the middle for Borussia Dortmund, before he signed for Manchester United, and a return to that position for Arsenal could see the Gunners benefit both on the pitch and in the transfer market, where they could allocate funds to more priority positions.
