Chris Smalling is yet to discuss his next career move amid interest in his services heating up, according to Mail Online, but he should consider Arsenal if he wants to prove himself in the Premier League.
The England international was deemed surplus to requirements by Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last summer, and was shipped out on a season-long loan deal to Roma, where he has impressed for Paulo Fonseca’s side.
Following his improved form this season, the former Fulham man has attracted a number of interested parties, including Tottenham, Everton and the Gunners, all of whom are apparently keen on signing him from United this summer.
With Smalling still yet to consider his next move, the 30-year old would be better off choosing the Emirates over Arsenal’s North London rivals as his next destination.
Jose Mourinho has proven time and time again to be a prickly customer, having publicly slammed his own player Tanguy Ndombele earlier this season, and Smalling would do well to be wary of the Portuguese manager who he will know all too well.
Mikel Arteta, on the other hand, has a growing reputation as a promising coach, and while Arsenal may not have the Champions League to offer, it is clear to see that the Spaniard is keen on carefully rebuilding the club he used to play for.
If Smalling has to choose between the two London clubs, it should be easy enough to see Arsenal as the brighter prospect.
The Gunners should soon be a new team entirely once Arteta can further bed in his philosophies, and Smalling would be wise to get on board this summer, particularly if he wants regular game time because could be harder to come by at Spurs.
