Arsenal look to have missed out on signing Barcelona defender Marc Cucurella, with Getafe set to complete the permanent signing of the full-back, according to Marca.
However, the club shouldn’t be concerned by the loss of a potential summer recruit, with options in that area already well-stocked.
Cucurella has impressed during a season-long loan with Getafe this season, with his performances having attracted the interest of Tottenham and Chelsea, as well as the Gunners.
Getafe will now reportedly trigger their £5.5million option to buy the defender, meaning the Premier League trio will lose out, although with Kieran Tierney, Sead Kolasinac and Bukayo Saka in Arsenal’s squad, it is a wonder that they registered interest in the first place.
While Saka isn’t a natural left-back, he has shown on numerous occasions this season that he is more than capable of deputising when the club’s two natural left-backs aren’t available to play.
When next season gets underway and both Tierney and Kolasinac are back fit and ready to play, the Gunners will have three capable left-sided full-backs ready to compete for a starting berth.
Tierney (22) and Saka (18) are both young too, so there we feel as if there wouldn’t be any need to bring in a younger left-back for the future in Cucurella.
As such, it is hard to see why Arsenal were interested in the Spaniard in the first place, although it does mean that with Cucurella set to join Getafe, the Gunners haven’t lost out on a key summer transfer target.
