Arsenal interested in deal to sign Sabitzer

Arsenal are reportedly showing an interest in signing RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who could be the perfect replacement for Mesut Ozil.

According to Calcio Mercato, Arsenal and Tottenham are both interested in signing Sabitzer in the summer.

The report claims that after he impressed for Leipzig against Tottenham in the Champions League, his list of suitors could grow heading into the next transfer window.

Sabitzer scored two goals and was superb against Spurs as Leipzig progressed through to the next round of the competition. He was a constant menace to the Tottenham defence and struck twice, taking him to four goals in the Champions League this season.

Signing Sabitzer could allow Arsenal to offload Ozil in the summer. Ozil turns 32 later this year and has only registered one goal and two assists in the Premier League, in 18 starts this season.

This suggests that his impact on the pitch is regressing and that it could be time for the club to sign a younger player to take his place.

The 25-year-old Sabitzer could be that man. He has 15 goals and seven assists in all competitions and has shown that he is able to produce consistent performances in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

His ability to arrive in the box at the right time could help to add some extra firepower to Arsenal’s frontline. He is also able to create play, with quick passing and clever movement around the box.

If Arsenal are able to secure a deal for Sabitzer, they could look for a buyer for Ozil. They could even try to send him out on loan to cut his wages from their bill for next season, although it remains to be seen whether any clubs would be interested in such a move.
