Arsenal are reportedly battling it out with Tottenham to land Wolves striker Raul Jimenez this summer, but could they persuade the Mexican to join them?
According to ESPN, both Arsenal and Tottenham are both interested in signing Jimenez from Wolves at the end of the season following his impressive form this term.
The report claims that Wolves’ stars are garnering interest from across Europe due to their exploits this season, although Arsenal are only said to be keen on Jimenez.
So, are Arsenal a better option for Jimenez than Spurs?
They could be, for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, Mikel Arteta. The Arsenal boss is young and trying to play an attractive brand of football, after working with Pep Guardiola for several years at Manchester City – who played some scintillating football during their title successes.
Jose Mourinho, on the other hand, has been more on the defensive side with Tottenham this season – often setting his side up to sit deep and absorb pressure, rarely going forward.
Who would you rather play for?
Jimenez is an attacking player and, therefore, he could prefer to play for a coach who wants to develop his attackers and play a forward-thinking style of football. This is one reason why Arsenal could be a better option for the Mexican international.
Another reason could be the competition for positions. Harry Kane has been Tottenham’s first-choice striker for a number of years and has scored 15 or more Premier League goals for five seasons straight before this campaign. This means that it could be very difficult for Jimenez to become a regular starter ahead of the England international at Tottenham.
However, there could be a spot opening up at the Emirates. Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Alexandre Lacazette, with Jimenez potentially being a replacement for the French forward.
Jimenez could come in and play regular first-team football in place of Lacazette, rather than sitting on the bench behind Kane.
