Feyenoord manager Dick Advocaat has admitted that Arsenal are interested in midfielder Orkun Kokcu heading into the summer transfer window.
The Daily Mail reports that the former Rangers boss has confirmed that Arsenal are hopeful of being able to seal a £23m deal for the midfielder ahead of next season.
Speaking to Fox Sports about Arsenal’s interest, as transcribed by the Daily Mail, Advocaat said:
It seems that what I read is true, but no one has yet come to Feyenoord (to make their interest clear).
I think he fits in everywhere.
So, Advocaat admits that Arsenal want Kokcu but also states that they have not approached Feyenoord as of yet. Due to Advocaat publically announcing this information, Arsenal should now swiftly approach Feyenoord and attempt to get a deal ironed out for the teenager.
Advocaat’s comments could entice other teams to step forward and show their interest in Kokcu now that they are aware of Arsenal’s pursuit. This could make is harder for the Gunners to secure a move for the midfielder if they face added competition for his signature.
However, if Arsenal are quick and come in with an offer soon, then they could avoid that possibility and have a deal wrapped up before any other sides can hijack it.
At 19, Kokcu could have a bright future ahead of him and it may be wise for Arsenal to sign him before loaning him back out to Feyenoord or another team in Europe.
He should be playing regular football to help him develop at this time of his career and it remains to be seen whether he would be able to get that Arsenal immediately. If Mikel Arteta plans to use him straight away, then that would be ideal. If he doesn’t, then a signing followed by an immediate loan move could make sense for all parties involved.
