Arsenal have reportedly joined the race for centre-back Ben White, who is currently on loan at Leeds United from Brighton.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are monitoring White closely and are considering a summer swoop for the talented, young defender.
The report claims that Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester are also interested in White as they track his form for Leeds.
Arsenal have conceded 36 goals in the Premier League this season, with only Tottenham, Burnley and Chelsea conceding more of the clubs in the the top 10. This does not tell the whole story, though, as Bernd Leno has had to be at his best all season to keep Arsenal in games.
The German shot-stopper has made an incredible 104 saves in the Premier League, with David De Gea’s 76 saves the second-most by a traditional top-six goalkeeper and Martin Dubravka the only man to make more saves in the entire division.
This shows that Arsenal are allowing too many shots on Leno’s goal and that they could have been in even more trouble this season if not for his brilliance between the sticks.
So, bringing in a talented young defender like White could help to ease Arsenal’s defensive woes. He has recorded an impressive WhoScored rating of 7.05 in the Championship and has made the most interceptions in the division.
White reads the game well and is able to break up attacks by spotting passes and cutting them out, winning possession back for his team and then progressing attacks for his own side.
White could be a good addition to Arsenal’s squad for that reason, whilst also having the potential to improve under Mikel Arteta.
He is only 22 and has his best years ahead of him, so with the right coaching, he could become a big player for Arsenal if they are able to sign him.
