Arsenal eyeing up a summer move for Milik

Arsenal have reportedly joined Tottenham in the race to land Napoli hitman Arkadiusz Milik in the summer transfer window, which could benefit Gabriel Martinelli’s development.

According to Calcio Napoli 24, Arsenal, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are among the teams interested in his signature.

The report claims that Napoli are looking for a fee in the region of €45m to allow the Polish international to leave the club.

Milik is Napoli’s top scorer in the Serie A this season and has managed an incredible nine goals in 14 starts for the club, whilst also recording the highest WhoScored rating in their squad.

He could be a top addition to Arsenal’s squad and add further firepower at the top end of the pitch, competing with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a starting place.

This could then allow Arsenal to send young forward Gabriel Martinelli out on loan. Martinelli has scored six goals in 11 starts across the Europa League and Premier League, but could benefit from going out on loan to play regular football.

As great as it is to see him getting sporadic first-team action at Arsenal, his development could be boosted by a season away playing regular football at another Premier League club. Arsenal could, perhaps, look to send him on loan to a bottom half team in the Premier League, where he could become a starter and attempt to score goals consistently at this level.

If he can do that, he could then come back to the Gunners the following year and really nail down his place in Mikel Arteta’s XI. This is why signing Milik could be a good move in the short-term and in the long-term for the club.
