Arsenal could be forced to make changes following Torreira’s injury

Despite Arsenal having not yet revealed the extent of Lucas Torreira’s recent injury scare, CDF (via Sport Witness) claim that the Uruguayan national team are fearing the worst.

The 24-year old was stretchered off, while being administered oxygen, during Arsenal’s FA Cup clash against Portsmouth earlier this week, after falling foul to a strong tackle.

It was confirmed by the BT Sport commentary team that Torreira didn’t require a trip to hospital, while the player himself later confirmed that he was “fine” when talking to ESPN Uruguay, providing fans with some hope.

Despite this though, Arsenal have remained silent, which has, in turn, spooked the Uruguay national team, who will need the midfielder for their World Cup qualifiers later this month.

Should Torreira be out of action for the foreseeable future, Arsenal will be forced to rethink their tactics in the final run-in of the season, with the Uruguayan having featured in every Premier League game during Mikel Arteta’s tenure so far.

Arsenal are blessed to have other options to them, with all of Granit Xhaka, Matteo Guendouzi and Dani Ceballos having started in the Gunners’ last three games.

Altohugh Joe Willock has featured in the club’s previous two games, he was left out of the match-day squad entirely for the Gunners’ last Premier League game (Transfermarkt), and now it could be time to bring him back into the fold.

Willock has started just six games in the Premier League this season, and with Torreira out, it could now be time to give the youngster a more prominent role.
