Mohamed Elneny looks set to return to Arsenal this summer, according to Fanatik, and Mikel Arteta should give him a chance to impress.
Despite Besiktas having the option to make Elneny’s loan move permanent this summer, Fanatik report that the Turkish Super Lig side aren’t interested, and will instead send him back to the Emirates, despite him having played a starring role for the Black Eagles this season.
With the 27-year old set to become available for Arteta to use next season, the Spanish coach should consider the Egyptian as a viable option ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Many of Arsenal’s current midfielders hold uncertain futures, while Dani Ceballos is also set to return to Real Madrid following the expiry of his loan spell. While Matteo Guendouzi has earned praise from fans this season, the Frenchman is still highly inexperienced, as made evident by Arteta’s decision to drop him from the squad last week.
As such, not only is there room for Elneny to return, but there could also be scope for the Egypt international to become of the more experienced and senior stars.
There would not be such a pressing demand for Arsenal to sign another midfielder this summer to replace any of the above trio if Elneny was reintroduced to the fold, meaning that the Gunners could better allocate their funds to other areas of the pitch.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is another star whose future is currently up in the air, and should Arsenal consider breaking the bank to get the forward to sign a new contract, then not spending money on a midfielder could prove helpful.
Arsenal will want to break back into the Champions League next season, having not played in the competition since the 2016/16 season, and Elneny would add European experience, having played in all of Besiktas’ Europa League games during his loan spell.
While Elneny might not be perceived to be of the required standard that Arsenal require, it couldn’t hurt to test him under a new managerial regime to see how he could improve.
