Arsenal have enquired about AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, according to CalcioMercato and he could be the perfect summer signing.
It was revealed last month that Mikel Arteta is targeting two midfielders this summer, with the club willing to bankroll the Spaniard.
Dani Ceballos looks set to leave the club once his Real Madrid loan spell expires at the end of the season, while neither of Granit Xhaka or Lucas Torreira have really been able to establish themselves at the Emirates. Should either of them go, Arsenal could have an even bigger desire to recruit midfielders in the summer.
Now Arsenal have made an approach to sound out Ivory Coast international Kessie, who CalcioMercato claimed in December could leave the Rossoneri for €30 million.
Powerful and energetic, and once described as one of “Europe’s best midfielders”, Kessie has struggled to find his place at Milan in more recent times, and he could make the perfect signing for Arsenal.
At just 23-years old, Kessie has already played over 120 times in Serie A for both Milan and Atalanta, scoring 20 league goals in the process. Milan have utilised the Ivorian as both a defensive midfielder and as a box-to-box player this season, the latter of which is his natural position, and Arsenal could benefit from a more physical presence at the heart of their midfield.
Quick, strong and dangerous in attack, “the next Yaya Toure” is a well-rounded operator who is unlike any other midfielder currently at the Emirates, and at just 23, he has plenty of time to further develop and get even better.
Milan’s desire to sell Kessie primarily stems from their desire to appease Financial Fair Play, not their lack of faith in his ability, and Arsenal could begin the summer well by completing the purchase of the all-action enforcer who could solve some of Arteta’s early problems at the Emirates.
