Roma are keen on keeping Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a permanent basis this summer, according to Sky Sports, and Arsenal should let the move happen.
The Armenia international joined the Giallorossi on a season-long loan last summer, having been deemed surplus to requirements by former Arsenal boss Unai Emery.
Roma did not have a permanent or obligation option in the loan deal, however, with the attacking midfielder having impressed for the Serie A side when not out injured, they are now keen to explore a permanent move.
Should Roma produce a firm offer for the former Manchester United man, it shouldn’t be a difficult decision for Arsenal to sanction a sale.
Whilst Mkhitaryan has been playing in Italy, a number of young players have pushed the 31-year further down the pecking order at the Emirates.
Joe Willock, Reiss Nelson and Bukayo Saka have all impressed in the Armenian’s absence, essentially blocking the path back into the team for Mkhitaryan.
Following his loan move, Mkhitaryan publicly claimed to have “fallen out of love” with football during his time in England, which also indicates that the player himself wouldn’t be keen on returning.
Given his poor fitness record, his dislike for English football and his connection with Roma, not to mention the fact that he has little over 12 months remaining on his contract, it is difficult to imagine Mkhitaryan turning out for Arsenal next season, but that doesn’t appear to be a bad thing.
