Bordeaux’s Maja claims Arsenal is his “dream” move

Bordeaux striker Josh Maja has revealed that he hopes to one day play for his “dream” club Arsenal, and the Gunners could do far worse than consider signing the forward.

The 21-year old joined the French Ligue 1 club from Sunderland in January 2019, having excelled in League One.

Since then the Nigeria international has attracted Premier League interest, with Le Parisien claiming that both Chelsea and Everton watched him during the January window.

However, Maja would prefer a move to the Emirates, telling BeIN sports that he hopes to play for Arsenal “one day”. As reported by GFFN on Twitter, Maja said:

I grew up in London so certainly my dream is to play in the Premier League. I hope to make it there in the future.

My club is Arsenal. I hope to play for them one day.

Despite having only started five times in Ligue 1 this season, Maja has had an impact for Bordeaux, scoring five times in the league for Les Girondins, and assisting on two occasions.

WhoScored describe Maja as being someone who excels in passing, shooting, dribbling and holding up the ball, while his limitations are his aerial ability, which is described as “very weak”.

Arsenal have been playing Eddie Nketiah up front since his early return from Leeds in January, and with Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel Martinelli and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Gunners have an abundance of forward options.

However, if the club decide to loan out Nketiah next season they could be in need of further reinforcements, particularly if Aubameyang does see his career leading him away from London.

While not someone who may come in and immediately light up the Premier League, Maja is a long-term option who could offer Arteta something different in the final third.
