Arsenal fans vent frustration following Guendouzi’s yellow card decision

Several Arsenal fans have criticised referee Mike Dean following Matteo Guendouzi’s booking against Portsmouth on Monday night.

The Gunners beat Pompey 2-0 in their FA Cup clash at Fratton Park on Monday, with goals coming from Sokratis and Eddie Nketiah as Arsenal progressed to the quarter-finals.

Aside from the goals and an unfortunate injury to Lucas Torreira, arguably the biggest talking point of the game came when Dean handed Guendouzi a yellow card.

During the first half of the game, the French midfielder won a free-kick for his side, which he attempted to take quickly. However, Dean claimed that it wasn’t taken in the correct place, calling for it to be retaken.

After moving the ball and attempting to retake the free-kick, Dean once again called for it to be moved, which saw Guendouzi sarcastically and overly enthusiastically pick the ball up and move it to the correct spot.

After doing so, Dean brandished a yellow card for the 20-year-old, leading many Arsenal fans to complain on social media, with several seeing the decision as highly hypocritical from a referee known for his touch of the dramatic.
