Arsenal should consider selling Ozil this summer

Mesut Ozil will not leave Arsenal this summer, according to the midfielder’s agent Dr Erkut Sogut, but the Gunners should attempt to cash in.

The 31-year old has been with Arsenal since 2013, and he remains intent on seeing out his contract with the club, which is set to expire in 2021.

That is according to Sogut who talking exclusively to iNews, revealed he will stick it out at the Emirates “for sure”. On his client’s future, Sogut said:

At the moment, we don’t even talk about it [a new contract], because he still has one-and-a-half-years left.

He still has 15 months to go. Until then, he will stay at Arsenal, for sure. He will stay until the end of his contract. There’s no chance he’ll leave.

However, despite Sogut remaining confident that the former Germany international will stay put this summer, Arsenal should consider a different direction.

With Ozil’s contract at the Emirates fast coming to an end, the club would be foolish not to explore the possibility of shifting the player for a small return, as opposed to letting him leave for nothing in 2021.

Of course, Ozil’s astronomical wages could be an issue, with the former Real Madrid playmaker currently earning £350,000-a-week, a staggering £150,000 more than the second highest earner, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Spotrac).

While it could prove difficult to find someone willing to take Ozil on that salary, the playmaker should be expected to contribute more to Mikel Arteta’s side on a weekly wage that high, and with him having only managed one goal and one assist in 17 Premier League games this season, he has to go sooner rather than later.

Lucrative opportunities could come from America and the Middle East, according to the report, so Arsenal must take the opportunity to explore potential suitors this summer so that they can sell Ozil and reinvest his wages into the club’s future.
