In a rather stale game, Arsenal did enough to get a 1-0 win away at Olympiakos in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie.
As a result of that, the Gunners now have an away goal and home advantage to look forward to in the second leg next week.
Alexandre Lacazette scored the only goal of the game, his second in two appearances after a lengthy drought.
Coming back to the start of the game, Mikel Arteta’s men had the biggest chance of the first half when Gabriel Martinelli set up Lacazette. However, the Frenchman couldn’t get the direction right in his finish.
Olympiakos had a couple of decent efforts in either half, but they really didn’t have enough to burst through the Arsenal defence.
The Gunners took the lead in the final 10 minutes when Bukayo Saka picked out Lacazette three yards out to tap the ball into the net.
Arteta’s men also had an effort fire off the post a few minutes later via Sokratis’ header.
All in all, a satisfying performance from Arteta’s side. They have now kept clean sheets in their last three games in all competitions. Not a bad return!
