Napoli have made one final attempt to tie forward Dries Mertens down to a new contract, with Arsenal one of several clubs keen on signing the Belgian.
The 32-year old striker-cum-winger will see his current deal with the Serie A club expire in the summer, and a number of clubs have begun registering their interest with the forward, who can sign a pre-contract deal in January.
Arsenal are believed to be keen, while Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also keeping tabs on the former PSV man.

However according to Corriere dello Sport (via Calciomercato), Napoli have made one last attempt to keep the forward by issuing a take it or leave it offer.
The report claims that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has offered Mertens a two-year contract worth around €4.2million a year, and that the Partenopei won’t be negotiating any further.

Given that he is 32-years old, Mertens wouldn’t be a long-term solution, but he would be an immediate injection of quality that Arsenal do need as things stand.
The Belgian is quick, skilful and clinical, and should he not commit to Napoli, Arsenal could do much worse than coming in quickly and offering him the terms that he would want.
