Arsenal have reportedly made a formal approach to sign Dries Mertens from Napoli in January.
As he comes to the end of his contract in Serie A, the Belgian forward has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates.
The Express, as cited on the Daily Star, now claims that the Gunners have made a formal approach about a £10 million deal as they look to step up their interest.

Mertens looks increasingly likely to leave Napoli in the near future with the forward no closer to agreeing a new deal with the Serie A side.
Arsenal are reportedly working on a small budget ahead of the January window, which makes the prospect of signing Mertens a very exciting one.
For just £10 million, Arsenal would struggle to sign a player with as much experience and quality as the Belgian.
There have been contrasting reports about his future in Naples, so it remains to be seen if this is merely agent talk to try and get a new deal agreed.
