Arsenal have reportedly scouted Kevin Volland on a number of occasions this season with a potential January move in mind.

According to the Daily Star via Sky Sports, the Bayer Leverkusen striker is one of a number of players on Arsenal’s January shortlist and the report claims he could be in line to become Mikel Arteta’s first signing.

The Gunners have also recently been linked with a move for 32-year-old Dries Mertens, with the £8.5million-rated striker said to be one of Arteta’s main targets.

Volland would certainly be a fine addition in January, given how versatile a player he is.

The 27-year-old has the ability to play as the central striker as well on either wing, and he would offer Arteta a number of options.

However Leverkusen will not be willing to part with Volland for a cheap fee, especially given how he is the club’s vice-captain.

The new Arsenal boss may therefore be better off prioritising other areas of his squad in the January window.
