Emery backs Arteta to succeed at Arsenal

New Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been backed to succeed at the club by former Gunners boss Unai Emery.

Arteta has been brought in to replace Emery three weeks after the Spaniard was originally sacked by the club.

It has been a long and drawn-out process to appoint Arteta, but Emery believes that the former Manchester City no.2 is more than ready to manage in the top flight.

Speaking to the BBC, as cited on the Express, Emery said:

He really is prepared to make that next jump. He has been at Arsenal before, he’s been in the Premier League and he has been working with Pep Guardiola. I do believe this is a good decision and I would also like it to be a good decision.

It’s a nice touch from Emery to wish Arteta well in his new role. It’s not often that you will see a former manager discuss his replacement so soon after their own sacking.

You have to give Emery credit, as badly as things may have ended at the Emirates, he has conducted himself in a very classy and professional manner.

Arteta will now be hoping that the Arsenal fan base can get behind him in a way they never really did under Emery, as he looks to guide the Gunners back to their former glories.
