Christie backs Tierney to come back stronger

Kieran Tierney has been tipped to get back to full fitness as soon as possible by one of his former Celtic team-mates.

Ryan Christie believes the left-back will be itching to impress new manager Mikel Arteta following a shoulder injury that is due to keep him out until March.

Speaking to the Daily Record, as cited on football.london, he said:

It’s a nightmare for him but he’s one of strongest characters mentally I’ve ever met.

He went on to add:

I have no doubt he’ll bounce back but it’s tough, especially in that situation where you’ve just moved to a new club and you’re trying to impose yourself and show what you can do.

Whoever the manager is when KT comes back, he’ll show him what he can do. It comes from his mentality and fighting spirit. He had that when he was coming through here at Celtic as a young boy.

It says a lot about Tierney’s attitude and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to Arsenal supporters either.

The Scottish defender has been considered as something of a throwback since his arrival at the club. Be it the tucked-in shirts or the no-nonsense defending, Tierney isn’t what many believe to be your modern-day footballer.

All of which makes it more devastating for the player that he has been ruled out for so long after such a promising start at the Emirates.

When the time does come for him to get back on the pitch, he’ll be aiming to get back up to full speed as soon as possible before attention turns to next season.
