Mikel Arteta is the leading candidate to become Arsenal’s new manager, according to a report from Sky Sports.
The club are apparently feeling the pressure to get a new manager in place as soon as possible as things haven’t exactly been brilliant under caretaker boss Freddie Ljungberg and they want to bring in somebody who knows Arsenal well.
Arteta, having played for the Gunners from 2011 to 2016, should know the club inside out and it looks like he is now Arsenal’s number one target.
A report in the Daily Mail suggests that Arsenal chiefs have already met with Arteta at his home in Manchester as the Gunners are keen to bring in a permanent replacement for Unai Emery.

Whilst Arteta knows Arsenal very well, hiring him would still be a gamble. Despite having worked as an assistant under the excellent Pep Guardiola, Arteta has no previous management experience and he’ll be thrown in the deep end if he does take the job.
The fans will back Arteta as they know him well, but there will still be some calls from supporters who think the club should be looking to hire a more experienced manager, such as Carlo Ancelotti.
