Roberto Martinez approached by Arsenal

Roberto Martinez has been approached by Arsenal regarding their vacant managerial position.

According to the Daily Mail, the manager of the Belgium national team is very much on their radar.

Arsenal are considering their options as they take their time in appointing Unai Emery’s replacement.

Martinez has been out of club management ever since he left Everton back in 2016.

The Spaniard has earned plenty of plaudits for the work he has done with Belgium, at a time where his management career appeared to be only going in one direction.

It was a shock to see him appointed by Belgium, but he has since guided them to a third-place World Cup finish, the highest in their history. Building on that, they have qualified for the Euros and will no doubt head into the competition as one of the favourites.

He has managed what many consider to be a ‘golden generation’ in Belgian football well, finding a balance between his defence and very potent attack.

Martinez’s teams have historically always played football that is easy on the eye, something that will go down well with those behind the scenes at the Emirates.

However, they also traditionally struggle defensively. It was something we saw with his Wigan and Everton teams – they may know how to attack with speed and flair, but the backdoor will always be left open.

Arsenal may want to consider a more organised and regimented appointment given how open they have been defensively this season.
