Sherwood believes Aubameyang wants to sign a new deal

Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has claimed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants to sign a new contract with Arsenal.

Sherwood thinks that he will put pen to paper on an extended deal, but only if he is happy with the new manager and assured that the club will strengthen their squad in the transfer market.

Aubameyang currently 18 months left on his contract at Arsenal and has scored 13 goals in 19 games in all competitions this season.

As quoted by The Daily Express, Sherwood said this:

I think he wants to sign but he’s going to watch very, very carefully at what happens between now and the appointment of the new manager.

[If it is] someone he’s happy with and they convince him they’re going to move into the transfer market and get better players to the football club, I think he stays. I think it’s a great club for him.

READ ARSENAL VERDICT

Aubameyang has been a sensational signing for Arsenal since he joined the club. After arriving from Borussia Dortmund in January 2017, he has scored an incredible 54 goals in 84 appearances for the Gunners – including 43 in 65 Premier League games.

The prolific forward does, however, turn 31 ahead of the 2020/21 campaign and next summer could be the perfect time for Arsenal to cash in. With teenage striker Gabriel Martinelli beginning to shine through and Alexandre Lacazette continuing to score goals, Arsenal could move Aubameyang on and reinvest the money into their defence to stop the flow of goals against them in the league.
