# Mauricio Pochettino in the running to replace Emery

Mauricio Pochettino is a contender to take over at the Emirates from Unai Emery.

[According to David Ornstein](https://theathletic.com/1419640/2019/11/29/arsenal-emery-pochettino-spurs/), the Gunners have not ruled out a move for the former Tottenham manager at this stage.

Arsenal have put Freddie Ljungberg in charge of the first-team squad on an interim basis while they wait to appoint a permanent successor.

Despite Arsenal’s interest, The Athletic’s report claims that ‘it does seem an unlikely move’, with Pochettino holding a strong relationship with the Tottenham fan base.

You only have to look at the way the Tottenham fans and players reacted to the news, even after Mourinho’s appointment, to see this.

The Argentinian boss is due to take a break from football before taking his next job, with many expecting him to hold out until the summer.

Several names have already been linked with the Arsenal job, but Pochettino would perhaps be the most controversial appointment of them all.
