Arsenal fans disappointed at Leno’s absence in The Athletic’s team of the decade

With 2019 coming to a close, plenty of fans and writers have been naming their Arsenal team of the decade.

The Athletic’s Amy Lawrence recently shared her XI, and it had many fans questioning one pick.

Petr Cech was picked in goal in front of a back four of Bacary Sagna, Per Mertersacker, Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal, but it was the goalkeeper’s inclusion which was the hot topic.

@SemperFiArsenal shared the XI on social media, however, these Gunners supporters were adamant current shot-stopper Bernd Leno should have made the cut over former teammate Cech.

Cech is one of the all-time goalkeeping greats, so it’s hard to leave him out of the side.

However, since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen, Leno has impressed in north London and has made more saves than any other ‘keeper in the Premier League this season.

A case can also be made for Wojciech Szczesny. Now shining at Juventus, the 29-year-old was a regular for the Gunners under Arsene Wenger before falling out of favour in 2015.

The trio were made to work extremely hard due to the club’s poor defensive displays, and really, any of the three could have easily made the side.
