# Guardiola opens the door for Arteta to replace Emery

Pep Guardiola has seemingly opened the door for Mikel Arteta to replace Unai Emery at Arsenal.

Speaking to the media, [as reported by Andy Hampson](https://twitter.com/andyhampson/status/1198947821870895104), Guardiola gave his verdict on the recent rumours [linking](https://metro.co.uk/2019/11/25/mikel-arteta-wants-arsenal-talks-unai-emery-given-three-games-save-job-11213332/?ito=newsnow-feed) Arteta with a move back to Arsenal.

> For sure he will be a manager. I want him to stay here as long as possible but personal life is personal life, professional desire is professional.

Guardiola will undoubtedly be keen to keep Arteta at City, but he may struggle to convince him to stay as he prepares to go it alone in his managerial career.

### Read Arsenal verdict

While Guardiola hasn’t confirmed that any move is imminent, the tone of his quotes appear to be quite accepting.

This will delight Arsenal fans, who would’ve been expecting the Manchester City boss to be doing all he can in order to keep hold of Arteta.

The former Arsenal midfielder is very highly rated by those behind the scenes at the Etihad, so it’s easy to see why they would be going out of their way to make sure he stays put.

With Manchester City already playing catch up in the title race, it shows the mutual respect between Guardiola and Arteta that he’d be willing to let him leave half way through the season.
