Arteta keen to talk to Arsenal as rumours over Emery’s future intensify

Mikel Arteta is keen to talk to Arsenal ahead of possibly replacing Unai Emery in the Emirates dugout.

That’s according to a report from the Metro, who claim that the Gunners are interested in talking to Arteta and former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri as Emery’s possible successors.

The report also adds that Arsenal could even give Emery three more games to turn things around in north London, however, a change of fortunes doesn’t look likely following the club’s recent form.

The Gunners are already eight points off the top four and have just one win in eight in all competitions, so there’s no surprise to see the club looking at possible replacements.

Arteta and Allegri appear to be the two main contenders and would both offer different qualities.

Allegri, who was actually interviewed for the Arsenal job last year, would bring a wealth of experience to north London and a winning mentality.

Meanwhile, Arteta, who has been learning the managerial trade as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, knows the Gunners well after a five-year playing stint in north London and could bring the feel-good factor back at the Emirates.

Both candidates would face a tough task to turn things around, and it looks as if either man could be appointed in the coming weeks with Emery’s sacking looking like a matter of when and not if.
