Lucas Torreira produced a fine individual display for Uruguay on Monday evening, which has led to plenty of Arsenal fans calling for Unai Emery to take note.
The 23-year-old turned out in a deep-lying midfield role in the 2-2 friendly draw with Argentina and played a key role in the opening goal scored by Edinson Cavani.
Torreira and his country just missed out on an impressive win after Lionel Messi’s stoppage-time penalty, but it was Torreira’s performance that left plenty talking.
National fan page @UruguayanHeroes heaped praise on the Arsenal man following the fixture, picking out his defensive showing and role in the first goal for specific praise.

Emery needs to start playing the energetic midfielder in his natural position, it’s as simple as that.
Torreira has been deployed further forward by the Spaniard when selected, a decision which hasn’t paid off. so far.
The player himself is seriously considering his Emirates future, but hopefully, following his stellar display on the national stage, he can get back to turning out in front of the back four for the Gunners and remain in north London for the foreseeable future.
