Arsenal need to end Upamecano pursuit following Man City interest

Manchester City are weighing up a January move for Arsenal target Dayot Upamecano, according to 90min.

The defending Premier League champions look set to be in the market for a new central defender over the coming months and have identified the RB Leipzig star as a possible target.

The Gunners themselves have been tracking the 21-year-old since the summer and are also thought to be keen on the Frenchman’s services in the new year.

However, should Unai Emery consider ending the club’s interest in the Frenchman?

Let’s be honest, if City firm up their interest, Arsenal have no chance of landing Upamecano.

The Gunners would be better off putting all their eggs into the basket of Juventus defender Merih Demiral, another young promising defender who the club have been keeping tabs on.

The Turkish international will be allowed to leave Turin in the new year and could be available for £34m.

Manchester United are also interested in the 21-year-old, however, the Gunners would stand a much better chance of pipping United to Demiral than they would with Upamecano and City.
