Arsenal eyeing up swoop for Jose Sa

Arsenal are one of a number of Premier League teams interested in a January swoop for Olympiakos goalkeeper Jose Sa.

According to SportTime, via TBR Football, Arsenal, Wolves and West Ham are all keen on the Portuguese international.

The report claims that he has a release clause of £13m, after signing for the Greek giants from Porto over the summer.

A move for Sa from Arsenal could indicate that Unai Emery does not see a long-term future at the club for Emi Martinez. The 27-year-old, long-serving, goalkeeper has been his cup competition number one this season, with Bernd Leno – of course – playing in the Premier League.

However, if Sa came to The Emirates to compete with Leno, it could leave Martinez in limbo or potentially force him to leave the club – either on loan or permanently. Martinez spent the second half of last season on loan to Reading and impressed in the Championship, which could mean that teams would be interested in signing him if he became available.

Sa has been called up to the Portuguese national squad in the past and played 26 times for Porto before his initial loan move to Olympiakos. Despite Leno’s form, Sa could help to push the German to become even better and provide more stern competition than Martinez is currently.
