Keown calls for Emery to build his team around Ozil

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has urged manager Unai Emery to build his team around Mesut Ozil.

The German international received a rare start for the Gunners last week as they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Liverpool in a thrilling encounter at Anfield.

Ozil was praised for his performance in the shootout defeat and fans want to see him more involved with the first-team squad. As quoted on Talksport, Keown said:

We know Ozil has the ability and quality. People couldn’t even dream of some of the things that he’s capable of. It’s about looking at the tactics and what can Arsenal deploy around him to get that creativity into the team.

But if he was to bring his A-game along as he did the other night [against Liverpool], I’ll take some of that, and some more. Let’s build a team around him, but the tactics from the manager have to be better.

Ozil proved in the cup defeat that he can still produce the goods when he is given the chance to play.

The playmaker has insisted that he is happy at the club but the only problem he is facing is winning over the trust of manager Emery, who seems to favour other players instead of him.

Every Arsenal fan wants to see Ozil starting regularly for the Gunners and we’ll have to wait and see if Emery takes Keown’s advice on board or not.
