# United and Liverpool join the race to sign Arsenal-linked Rugani

Arsenal will face competition from Manchester United and Liverpool in any deal to sign Daniele Rugani from Juventus.

[According to Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/milan-join-race-for-defender-wanted-by-man-utd-and-liverpool-17302), the Premier League duo and Serie A side Milan have all joined the race to sign the player in the new year.

Rugani looks poised to leave Juventus during the January window, having not yet played a single game for the Old Lady this season.

The links to Liverpool will come as a surprise to many. Their recent injury to Joel Matip does leave them a little shorter at the back, but they’re by no means in a position where they need to go out and panic in January.

For Rugani, a move to Manchester United may make more sense as they continue to search for the perfect partner for Harry Maguire.

When compared to [Arsenal](https://readarsenal.com/2019/10/28/arsenal-remain-interested-in-25m-rated-daniele-rugani/), game time would be more likely at Old Trafford, with the Gunners already well-stocked in central defenders.

For the sake of his long-term career, it may just work out better for Rugani to pursue a move to Manchester United instead, where an opening seems far more feasible based on the current options they have at the back.
