Arsenal Player Ratings: Liverpool (A)

Arsenal somehow managed to get themselves eliminated from the Carabao Cup against Liverpool at Anfield despite leading the game twice in normal time. A Dani Ceballos penalty miss in the shootout was enough for them to bow out of the competition.

After a shaky start, Shkodran Mustafi’s own goal handed the home side the lead, but the Gunners responded with goals from Lucas Torreira and a brace from Gabriel Martinelli to make it 3-1.

James Milner converted a penalty won by Harvey Elliott to make it 3-2 at half-time.

Unai Emery’s men made it 4-2 after the aforementioned scorer left his keeper short and Mesut Ozil assisted Ainsley Maitland-Niles on the goal line.

However, pure strikes from Gunner Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi brought the scoreline to 4-4 with 25 minutes left.

Joe Willock’s thunderous strike 19 minutes from time made it 5-4 for Arsenal, and it seemed as if they would go through. But, Origi’s 95th-minute equaliser sent the game into shootouts where Ceballos’ miss proved costly.

Here’s how we rated the Arsenal players:
