# Parlour confused by Torreira’s omission

Ray Parlour has expressed his confusion over Unai Emery’s decision not to play Lucas Torreira more often.

[Speaking on Sky Sports, as cited on The Boot Room](https://tbrfootball.com/ray-parlour-amazed-lucas-torreiras-not-getting-chance-for-arsenal/), the ‘Romford Pele’ explained that the midfielder is being played out of position by the Arsenal boss.

> I’ve always been amazed that Torreira’s not had a chance to play where he plays, because he’s showed signs that he can play that role. And I always think that Torreira’s playing in the wrong position when he plays. So maybe it’s an opportunity for him to get in the side now.

Upon joining the club from Sampdoria, Torreira looked like he could finally be the answer to Arsenal’s struggles in the defensive midfield position.

After searching for their own ‘Kante-like’ player, many believed that Torreira could be that figure in the middle of the park.

However, when has been given a chance by Emery this season, the Spaniard has insisted on using him in a more advanced midfield role, one which he is clearly not best suited to.

So far this season, Torreira has [only been played](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-torreira/leistungsdaten/spieler/318077) in a defensive midfield position four times out of his 11 appearances in all competitions.

Out of all the teams in the top half of the [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables), only Chelsea (16) have conceded more goals than Arsenal (14), so it may benefit Emery to go back to playing Torreira in his more natural defensive position and offer his back four some more protection.
