A section of Arsenal fans have been left underwhelmed after learning the club’s seven alternative managerial targets before they appointed Unai Emery.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed on Monday the seven bosses who were on the shortlist alongside Emery last summer, with a mixture of former players and European coaches interviewed for the role before the Gunners settled with the Spaniard.

Emery has come in for plenty of criticism in recent weeks which has led to the seven names resurfacing, however, when @LTArsenal shared the list of former candidates and weighed in with their views, these fans weren’t impressed.
Twitter: Am I the only one who feels that the shortlist was pretty underwhelming? Those who were considered walk into the 7… https://t.co/uR4RxdnJhL (@ltarsenal)
Twitter: @ltarsenal That’s what I thought tbh even a Rodgers wouldn’t have been that bad to put on the list. (@AFCJGreen)
Twitter: @ltarsenal Nope. That’s quite a scary list. I thought it would be a bit more…promising than that haha (@nws13)
Twitter: @ltarsenal Very Underwhelming, but given the fact that we were playing in the EL & our financial situation at that… https://t.co/GPr3ifgMv3 (@AsherNehemiah)

With things not going too well for Emery or the Gunners, Arsenal officials may well decide to revisit that list over the coming months if they decide to part ways with the Spaniard.
Massimiliano Allegri, Mikel Arteta, Thierry Henry, Julen Lopetegui, Ralf Rangnick, Jorge Sampaoli and Patrick Vieira were the seven considered, and plenty of fans would probably take any of the seven over Emery at this moment in time.
