Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has hit out at the Gunners’ performance against Crystal Palace on Sunday, but is it an overreaction or does he have a point?
Unai Emery’s men threw away a two goal lead at the Emirates as Palace fought back to secure a 2-2 draw in a match that was overshadowed by Granit Xhaka’s response to criticism from the crowd.
And following the draw, Frimpong blasted Arsenal for their performance and stated that his former side currently have “no identity.”

Frimpong’s claim about Arsenal lacking identity certainly poses the question of whether Emery has actually succeeded in implementing his own style on the Gunners.
Up until the defeat to Sheffield United, Arsenal had made a relatively good start to the season, but defeat to the Blades and another game in which they have thrown a two-goal lead away does pose the question as to whether the Gunners are strong enough defensively.
Much of the focus now, however, will be to limit the fallout from Xhaka’s reaction to receiving jeers from the crowd and Emery certainly faces a big week ahead.
